I have two implants for over a year and haven't had any problems. I went to a specialist to get them done (not a general dentist). It was a long process but definitely worth it.

My husband had a titanium implant in a lower tooth and regrets it to this day. It took forever to heal, he still feels it--it's like it's trying to come out of his jaw, and said if there was another alternative he would remove it. He said it wasn't worth the money he spent on the implant.
Good luck. Have you talked to your dentist/periodontist about these concerns? I definitely would before going through with the procedure.

If an upper tooth implant gets into your sinus cavity, you can have severe infections.

people with uncontrolled diabetes (who didnt take his medication) tend to get infection after dental procedure such as implant placement.diabetes impaited healing, causing the failure og the jaw bone to 'merge' around the implant and hold it.i think implant is better placed on the lower jaw than upper as lower jaw bone is more dense and bulky than the upper.

Stop letting people scare you! Seems like people have nothing better to do than make people feel frightened. Dental implants have been around for 30 years. The biggest and most important factor in getting dental implants that are successful, begin with the dental professional themselves. Personally I believe you should begin with a Prosthodontist who is a dentist specialising in people with missing teeth. Plus you need to do your home work. My very own Prosthodontist wrote a book that I read this in. He states that if the Professional is reputable he will not mind your inquiries. Ask to see before and after photo's, and to speak with satisfied patients, find out how often this professional places implants and what is their success rate. My prosthodontist has a 98 to 100% success rate with every implant he places. There is so much technical skill involved with placing implants. It's not just drilling a post into your jaw bone. The sucess depends on so many factors including the area being totally sterile and not one germ introduced into the site, bone quality, type of implant placed, etc. Do not go to just a "dentist" for this very important procedure. Going to an oral surgeon who places them often is a good choice but a better choice is a prosthodontist who has a lab on the premises.
I have 8 implants on top and 6 on the bottom with an entire full dental bridge. Not one implant failed or had problems. Today's implants are so much more advanced than the ones they placed even from 10 years ago.
